Our Story
We’re Lynn and Jason Makela, and we love cabins
The Keweenaw Peninsula is a special place to us. We went to school here (Michigan Tech), we met here (Keweenaw Brewing Company), we married here (McLain State Park), and most recently—we moved back here from Seattle to trade the city hustle for the cabin hustle. Since returning to Michigan, we’ve discovered a shared passion for building things and bringing old stuff back to something beautiful.
All of this led us to a magical cabin on the northernmost part of the Keweenaw Peninsula—in need of much love and repair but in a breathtaking setting on Lake Superior. In 2018 we purchased a cabin down the road and we were hooked. We’ve spent two years of weekends breathing love, sweat, and tears into this beautiful space where our guests return time after time.
Our cabin fever in full swing, we bought Fresh Coast Cabins—formerly known as Eagle Lodge and Lakeside Cabins. We’re busy renovating and updating each of the nine cabins to provide a delightful launchpad for your adventures in the Keweenaw—the most beautiful place on earth.
Be our guest
We love hosting! Our goal is to provide an excellent stay with cozy, thoughtful touches and as much information about the local area as you like. We frequently visit these places ourselves and we want our guests to feel well-cared for when staying with us. If you have a question about things to do or where to go, let us know. If you’re a local business who shares our passion for showing off this part of the world and are interested in collaborating, we’d love to hear from you, too.
By day, Jason builds rockets for satellites and Lynn is a digital marketing consultant. We live in Hancock, Michigan but can frequently be found enjoying all the adventure spots in the Keweenaw.
With love from the Keweenaw,
Lynn & Jason
