Smokeless Campfires and Superior Air

Nestled in the woods on Michigan’s Lake Superior shore, we have a communal bonfire ring for guests to commingle (COVID copacetically, of course), but we also want to offer them the option to build a private fire at their cabin. Enhancing our guests’ experience is always top of mind, and there’s nothing quite like a crackling fire next to Lake Superior to do just that. Our Solo Stove fire pits are one of the best investments we’ve made! Here’s why we love them.

Simple and easy-to-use

The first thing we noticed when unboxing our first Solo Stove Bonfire was just how simple and pleasing to the eye it is! We were able to build our first fire with very minimal set-up and barely any instructions-reading required—just how we like it. It’s super good looking right out of the box and will only get better as the patina forms over time.

Low smoke

Admittedly we were more than a little skeptical when we heard that Solo Stove fire pits are smokeless. Like so many folks, we have spent way too much time dodging campfire smoke and having our clothes and hair smell for hours after. But boy, they aren’t kidding! The fire pit creates a super efficient burn that’s not only mesmerizing to watch but a joy to sit around because it’s virtually smoke free.

Safety first

As the owners of nine rustic cabins in the woods where we have our Solo Stoves, safety is key. After seeing how safe they really are, we have total peace of mind about our guests using them when we’re not around. They’re small, contained, and safe for our small private cabin patios. Completely eliminated is the need to douse them with water or dirt to extinguish the flames since they go out on their own! Once you’ve finished supervising to ensure the fire is safely put out, cleanup is a snap—a little ash is left behind which easily falls out when you tip it over. Burn, baby, burn

One of our favorite features of the Solo Stove fire pit is that no fuel is required! Once you’ve started your fire with whatever sticks and branches are lying around plus a few logs, things really take off. The cool-looking holes in the double-wall structure draw in air from the bottom and feed the heated oxygen to the top, resulting in a spectacular secondary burn. Coming soon: we’re creating a “how to start a fire” guide for easy reference—stay tuned!

Solo Stove Fire Pits at Fresh Coast Cabins

Solo Stove fire pits come in three sizes—Ranger, Bonfire, and Yukon. We chose the midsize Bonfire bundle that includes a fire pit stand and cover. The stand allows for better airflow and adds a layer of protection from the ground. We have these puppies sitting on our new custom concrete patios but it’s nice to have the additional layer.

We’re contemplating the idea of having a private Solo Stove at each cabin. This season we’ve started with Cabins 8 & 9 and are looking forward to feedback from guests. Stay tuned!

The Bottom Line

We love our Solo Stove Bonfire to the moon and back and can’t wait to add more to the Fresh Coast Cabins property! If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to enjoy a private campfire from the comforts of home or on an adventure, this thing will blow your mind. We can’t recommend the Solo Stove enough.
